Not all of us might end up with jobs that match our dream careers.
If you don’t have that job now, it’s there somewhere in the near future.
You have to keep working towards it and not give up.
When you’re stuck in an unsatisfying job, there is a tendency to convince yourself with career lies about your job.
In order to advance forward in your career, you have to fight this urge.
There may be many reasons why you stay at a job you don’t enjoy.
Instead of lying to yourself, it is time you faced your fears and fought them bravely.
Here are some career lies you should stop telling yourself:
1. “I’m stuck in this job.”
Nobody is actually stuck at their job because nobody is forcing you to keep it.
You can always find another job.
True, under certain circumstances you may be forced to keep your job; but once you tackle all those circumstances you can go on and change your job.
Try listing out all your abilities and skills, and look for jobs which match with them.
2. “I’m happy where I am now”
You have to ponder over this statement for a while.
Are you really happy?
Do you think of your job as ‘work’ or is it something that brings you enjoyment?
When you enjoy your job, you’re just doing what you love doing and getting money for it.
You might convince yourself that you’re happy because change is a scary thing, but that doesn’t mean you’re actually happy.
3. “Just one more year.”
We all have thought of it as just another year.
And most often, that one year turns into two, five or even ten years!
You have to take the leap at some point. Don’t torture yourself doing a soulless job.
Instead of procrastinating, if you want to bring some change, do it right now.
4. “There are no jobs out there”
Sure, the headlines are always filled with bad news about the economy and unemployment, but how do you actually know?
Instead of simply lying to yourself, try to conduct some extensive research.
Talk to industry professionals to get some first-hand information.
If you have the talent they want, any company would be ready to accommodate you.
5. “The pay is too good.”
Don’t imagine that if you leave this job, you would be utterly and completely unable to support yourself.
Based on what your income is, your expenses can be adjusted easily.
All it takes is a few lifestyle changes.
Doing something you love is much more important than the money you make because you can’t put a price on the happiness and satisfaction you derive from it.
6. “I’m not good enough.”
It’s very hard to convince yourself that you are capable and ambitious, but ask yourself this: if you’re not good enough, how is it that you already have a job?
So telling yourself that you’re not good enough is just another one of those lies.
7. “I don’t know how to do anything else.”
You most definitely do.
This statement is simply because you don’t want to leave the safety and protection you feel in your comfort zone and try to learn new things.
There’s nothing in this world that can’t be learned. All you have to do is to step out of the little cage you’ve made for yourself out of comfort.
Nobody likes things to be uncertain.
But after the initial period of uncertainty, there is always a better time in which you find happiness and satisfaction in what you do.
That is what should keep you going, and what you should strive for.
Stop simply asking yourself “when will I get a job?” Instead, go out there, take that huge leap and find your dream job.
